Criminal Investigations

The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID) consists of four specialized sections: Major Crimes, Property Crimes, Crime Scene Investigations (CSI), and Narcotics.

The primary function of these detectives is to investigate criminal activity, arrest those responsible, thus bringing to justice suspects who have committed criminal acts within the jurisdiction of our county.

Detectives receive extensive, specialized criminal investigative training in interviewing and interrogations, homicides, rapes, robberies, burglaries, and other criminal investigations. This training enables these detectives to stay informed on the latest investigative techniques and legal updates.

Major Crimes

The major crimes detectives are responsible for the investigation of violent crimes against persons, arson, fraud / financial crimes, identity theft and cyber crimes.

They are tasked with locating, identifying and interviewing potential witnesses and suspects in these crimes. These detectives are also responsible for investigations involving run-away juveniles / missing persons

Property Crimes

The Property Crimes detectives are responsible for the investigation of crimes of theft from residential and commercial properties.

These detectives investigate damage to personal and real property, they employ every effort to recover lost or stolen property. They are tasked with locating, identifying and interviewing potential witnesses and suspects related with these crimes.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)

Crime scene investigations specialize in crime scene processing, evidence collection, handling and storage.

Narcotics Division

The Narcotics Division has a proactive emphasis on narcotics and drug-related crimes.

Our mission is to strictly enforce the laws of the North Carolina Controlled Substance Act, arrest and bring to justice those individuals or organizations involved in the growing, selling, manufacturing, or distributing of illegal drugs appearing in or destined for illicit drug trafficking in Johnston County.
